Volumetric Profiling of Emphysema
With volumetric CT imaging, the severity of emphysema can also be quantitated throughout the longitudinal extent of the lung. An emphysema profile can be computed by analyzing each image in a volumetric sequence as shown below. Within each slice the number of voxels that represent normal lung (< 6 ml/g), moderate emphysema (6 - 10 ml/g) and severe emphysema (> 10 ml/g) are quantified.
